South Alabama Dental Assisting Program

Course Overview

Our dental assisting course is offered up to three times per year — in the Spring, Summer, and Fall — depending on community interest and demand.

Each session runs for 10 consecutive weeks, providing:

• 80 hours of instruction, combining lecture and clinical hands-on training
• Classes held on either Friday or Saturday, based on group availability and need
• Minimum of 3 clinical hours per week outside of class
• Approximately 60 hours of home study
• Optional hands-on experience in real dental offices during the course
• Total coursework time: approx. 155 hours

• Textbook: Modern Dental Assisting by Bird & Robinson
• All training materials, supplies, and teaching aids used in clinical sessions
• Full access to dental equipment, instruments, and lab materials

• Certificate in Dental Assisting
• X-ray training compliant with Alabama state regulations
• Comprehensive instruction in general and specialty dentistry
• CPR Certification included

Graduation Requirements

To successfully complete the program and receive your certificate, you must:

• Maintain a 70% or higher average
• Score 70% or higher on all portions of the final exam
