South Alabama Dental Assisting Program
Course Overview
Our dental assisting course is offered up to three times per year — in the Spring, Summer, and Fall — depending on community interest and demand.
Each session runs for 10 consecutive weeks, providing:
- 80 hours of instruction, combining lecture and clinical hands-on training
- Classes held on either Friday or Saturday, based on group availability and need
- Minimum of 3 clinical hours per week outside of class
- Approximately 60 hours of home study
- Optional hands-on experience in real dental offices during the course
- Total coursework time: approx. 155 hours

- Textbook: Modern Dental Assisting by Bird & Robinson
- All training materials, supplies, and teaching aids used in clinical sessions

- X-ray training compliant with Alabama state regulations
- Comprehensive instruction in general and specialty dentistry

Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete the program and receive your certificate, you must:
- Maintain a 70% or higher average
- Score 70% or higher on all portions of the final exam
